PRIOR to receiving his Law degree, Gerry obtained a B.A. in History and Law, in 1980, from Carleton University, in Ottawa. He subsequently graduated from the University of Ottawa Law School in 1984 and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1986.
Gerry is a certified dispute resolution specialist, having obtained his Mediator Certification in 1994, from C.D.R. Associates in Boulder, Colorado and his Arbitrator Certification in 1996, from the Arbitration & Mediation Institute of Ontario.
Over his 20 years of practice, Gerry has acted for insurers in the defence of personal injury, accident benefit, property/casualty, coverage and regulatory disputes. He has experience at all levels of court in Ontario and has also appeared in the Supreme Court of Canada. He also appears regularly at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) and before other arbitral tribunals as well.
As a certified mediator and arbitrator, in addition to representing his insurance clients in those dispute resolution forums, Gerry is also regularly hired to act as a mediator of insurance disputes by various parties in the industry.
Gerry is a member of the Advocates Society, Canadian Defence Lawyers and the Defence Research Institute. He is also a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association.
Gerry and his wife Pat have two young sons, Andrew and Graeme. His personal interests include jazz and folk music, fine wine, food and travel. |
